Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana.- Kirsty Coventry es la primera mujer elegida presidenta del Comite Olimpico Internacional (COI) en la 144 Sesion del organismo mundial el pasado 20 de marzo 2025.
Es la decima persona que presidira el Comite Olimpico Internacional y la primera africana ademas de la mas  laureada de Zimbabue su pais natal quien ha ganado siete de ocho medallas olimpicas,
Con 41 años fue elegida para un mandato de ocho años con voto secreto entre siete candidatos en la primera votacion que se celebro en Costa Navarivo, Gracia y sustituira a Thomas Bach este 23 de junio 2025.
La presidenta dijo sentirse muy orgullosa de llamarse zimbabuense, haber crecido en ese pais africano y que su madre y abuela hayan nacido alli a la vez que resalto que para Africa es su momento.
Muchas expoectativas ante el mandato de la Sra. Coventry a nivel mundial tanto en los Comites Olimpicos Nacionales como en las Federaciones Internacionales que convergen en los Jugos de Verano y de Invierno.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.- Kirsty Coventry is the first woman elected President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the 144th Session of the world body on March 20, 2025.
She is the tenth person to preside over the International Olympic Committee and the first African, as well as the most decorated from Zimbabwe, her home country, which has won seven of eight Olympic medals.
At 41, she was elected to an eight-year term by secret ballot from among seven candidates in the first ballot held in Costa Navarivo, Gracia, and will replace Thomas Bach on June 23, 2025.
The president said she is very proud to call herself Zimbabwean, to have grown up in that African country, and that her mother and grandmother were born there. She also emphasized that for Africa, this is its time. Many expectations for Ms. Coventry’s tenure at the global level, both in the National Olympic Committees and in the International Federations that converge on the Summer and Winter Games.
