Kuwait is preparing to welcome leading figures from the world of sport as it hosts the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on Sunday under the theme ‘One Asia’. The two-day event will bring together representatives from all 45 National Olympic Committees across Asia, as well as officials from international sporting bodies.

The assembly will open with a cultural showcase at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre, featuring traditional performances from six Asian nations – China, India, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Lebanon and host country Kuwait – celebrating the continent’s unity through sport.

Such session is scheduled for Monday at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. High-profile attendees include current International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe. Around 400 dignitaries from Asian and global sports organisations are expected to attend.

OCA Director General Hussein Al-Musallam highlighted the significance of the event, which he said «reflects Kuwait’s role as the headquarters of the OCA» and its continued commitment to the Olympic cause. He added that the gathering underlined «Asia’s growing prominence in global sport», citing the continent’s hosting of seven Games and the consistent international success of its athletes.

The Assembly aims to chart the future of the Olympic Movement in Asia, reinforcing the values of cooperation, mutual respect and sporting excellence. Discussions will focus on expanding sports development, strengthening ties between national Olympic bodies and advancing strategic goals for the region’s sports infrastructure.

Thani bin Al-Kuwari, second vice president of the OCA, welcomed the «patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah» and acknowledged the crucial role played by «His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah», describing their support as «a great asset to the OCA». He noted the symbolism of Kuwait hosting the event, which he said reflected the country’s central place in Asian Olympic sport.

The Chairman of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, Sheikh Fahad Nasser Al-Sabah, echoed this sentiment, stating that the gathering «demonstrates the country’s prominent position on the Asian Olympic sports map». He confirmed that extensive preparations had been made to ensure the success of the event.

In a parallel initiative, the 37th meeting of the Council of Presidents of the Gulf Olympic Committees will also take place in Kuwait on Sunday, with the aim of strengthening regional cooperation and promoting common sporting goals among the Gulf states.

As the continent gathers under the common vision of ‘One Asia’, the OCA gathering in Kuwait is poised to strengthen solidarity and inspire the continued development of Asian sport on the world stage.

Kuwait acogerá la 45.ª Asamblea General del OCA el próximo domingo. @AsianGamesOCA El evento de dos días reunirá a representantes de 45 Comités Olímpicos Nacionales de Asia, así como a funcionarios de organismos deportivos internacionales.
Kuwait se prepara para recibir a figuras destacadas del mundo del deporte en la 45.ª Asamblea General del Consejo Olímpico de Asia (OCA) que se celebrará el domingo bajo el lema «Una Asia».
El evento de dos días reunirá a representantes de los 45 Comités Olímpicos Nacionales de Asia, así como a funcionarios de organismos deportivos internacionales.
La asamblea comenzará con una muestra cultural en el Centro Cultural Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad, con actuaciones tradicionales de seis naciones asiáticas: China, India, Uzbekistán, Indonesia, Líbano y el país anfitrión, Kuwait, para celebrar la unidad del continente a través del deporte.
Dicha sesión está programada para el lunes en el Hotel Waldorf Astoria.
Entre los asistentes de alto perfil se encuentran el actual presidente del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI), Thomas Bach, y la presidenta electa del COI, Kirsty Coventry, de Zimbabue.
Se espera la asistencia de alrededor de 400 dignatarios de organizaciones deportivas asiáticas e internacionales.
El Director General del COI, Hussein Al-Musallam, destacó la importancia del evento, que, según él, «refleja el papel de Kuwait como sede del COI» y su continuo compromiso con la causa olímpica.
Añadió que la reunión subrayó «la creciente prominencia de Asia en el deporte mundial», citando la organización de siete Juegos Olímpicos en el continente y el éxito internacional constante de sus atletas.
La Asamblea tiene como objetivo trazar el futuro del Movimiento Olímpico en Asia, reforzando los valores de la cooperación, el respeto mutuo y la excelencia deportiva.
Los debates se centrarán en la expansión del desarrollo deportivo, el fortalecimiento de los vínculos entre los organismos olímpicos nacionales y el avance de los objetivos estratégicos para la infraestructura deportiva de la región.
Thani bin Al-Kuwari, segundo vicepresidente del Comité Olímpico de Kuwait (COA), agradeció el patrocinio de Su Alteza el Emir, el Jeque Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, y reconoció el papel crucial desempeñado por Su Alteza el Príncipe Heredero, el Jeque Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, describiendo su apoyo como un gran activo para el COA. Destacó el simbolismo de Kuwait como sede del evento, que, según él, refleja el lugar central del país en el deporte olímpico asiático.
El presidente del Comité Olímpico de Kuwait, el Jeque Fahad Nasser Al-Sabah, se hizo eco de este sentimiento, afirmando que la reunión demuestra la posición destacada del país en el panorama deportivo olímpico asiático.
Confirmó que se han realizado amplios preparativos para asegurar el éxito del evento. Paralelamente, la 37.ª reunión del Consejo de Presidentes de los Comités Olímpicos del Golfo también se celebrará en Kuwait el domingo, con el objetivo de fortalecer la cooperación regional y promover objetivos deportivos comunes entre los Estados del Golfo. Mientras el continente se reúne bajo la visión común de “Una Asia”, la reunión de la OCA en Kuwait está preparada para fortalecer la solidaridad e inspirar el desarrollo continuo del deporte asiático en el escenario mundial.
