
Ahead of the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games, which will officially open in Santo Domingo on 24 July and continue until 8 August, the Centro Caribe Sports General Assembly was held. The major sports forum brought together leaders of the Olympic Movement and continental sports organizations, who discussed several strategic issues included on the agenda.
During the General Assembly, Centro Caribe Sports President and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member Luis Mejía Oviedo introduced Jaime Casanova Martínez, Vice President of the International Kurash Association (IKA) and President of the Pan-American Kurash Union, to the participants of the meeting. It was also announced that IKA Acting President Ziyoviddin Khodjiniyazov is scheduled to visit Santo Domingo. During his visit, Ziyoviddin Khodjiniyazov is expected to participate in a number of official events and meetings organized within the framework of the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games.
The agenda of the General Assembly included reports from the organization’s commissions, the financial report, discussions on the preparations for the Games, the condition of sports venues, as well as the priority areas of Centro Caribe Sports’ activities.
Among those attending the event were Panam Sports President and IOC Member Neven Ilic, President of the “Santo Domingo 2026” Organizing Committee, José Monegro, heads of National Olympic Committees, and representatives of international and continental sports organizations.
The participation of the leadership of the International Kurash Association in this prestigious event represents another important step toward strengthening Kurash’s position in the Americas, expanding international cooperation, and promoting sports diplomacy.
Antes de los XXV Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe, que se inaugurarán oficialmente en Santo Domingo el 24 de julio y se extenderán hasta el 8 de agosto, se celebró la Asamblea General de Centro Caribe Sports. Este importante foro deportivo reunió a líderes del Movimiento Olímpico y de organizaciones deportivas continentales, quienes debatieron diversos temas estratégicos incluidos en la agenda.
Durante la Asamblea General, el Presidente de Centro Caribe Sports y miembro del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI), Luis Mejía Oviedo, presentó a Jaime Casanova Martínez, Vicepresidente de la Asociación Internacional de Kurash (IKA) y Presidente de la Unión Panamericana de Kurash, a los participantes. Asimismo, se anunció la visita a Santo Domingo del Presidente Interino de la IKA, Ziyoviddin Khodjiniyazov, quien participará en varios eventos y reuniones oficiales organizados en el marco de los XXV Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe.
La agenda de la Asamblea General incluyó informes de las comisiones de la organización, el informe financiero, debates sobre los preparativos para los Juegos, el estado de las sedes deportivas y las áreas prioritarias de las actividades de Centro Caribe Sports.
Entre los asistentes se encontraban el presidente de Panam Sports y miembro del COI, Neven Ilic; el presidente del Comité Organizador de Santo Domingo 2026, José Monegro; los jefes de los Comités Olímpicos Nacionales; y representantes de organizaciones deportivas internacionales y continentales.
La participación de la directiva de la Asociación Internacional de Kurash en este prestigioso evento representa un paso importante para fortalecer la posición del Kurash en América, ampliar la cooperación internacional y promover la diplomacia deportiva.
