WADA launches new youth resources for clean sport education
- Saturday, 2 November 2024
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has launched two innovative additions to its Anti-Doping Education and Learning (ADEL) platform, which aims to empower Anti-Doping Organisations (ADOs) to educate young athletes on the importance of fair play and clean sport. The newly launched resources include:
1. ADEL course for young athletes
2. Downloadable educational resources
The ADEL for Youth Athletes course is designed for young athletes between the ages of 11 and 15 who participate in sport through school or clubs, and introduces them to the basic principles of clean sport. The course is designed to equip young athletes with essential skills to navigate challenging moments in their athletic journey. Each module includes insights from members of WADA’s Athlete Council, who share their personal experiences of competing with integrity and promoting a positive sports environment.

WADA’s Director of Education, Amanda Hudson, emphasised the organisation’s mission, «Since the publication of the first International Standard for Education, WADA’s goal has been to develop content that would help Anti-Doping Organisations expand the reach of their education programmes, particularly for those that may not have the capacity to produce their own materials. With this new course, our education programmes now cover all stages of an athlete’s career, from grassroots to elite competition».
In addition to the ADEL course, WADA has released four downloadable resources to support youth and talent-level athletes, as well as their parents and support personnel. Created by a sub-group of WADA’s Education Committee, the resources cover important topics such as testing procedures, the Prohibited List, safe supplement use and speaking up in difficult situations.
Kady Kanouté Tounkara, Chair of WADA’s Education Committee, emphasised the
accessibility of the new materials, «These downloadable resources represent a significant step forward in expanding access to information on doping.»
